Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes to join?
No. This program is for people with type 2 diabetes, prediabetes, or insulin resistance. If you’re not sure where you fit, we can help clarify that during your assessment.
Is this covered by OHIP?
Visits are not covered by OHIP. Lab tests ordered as part of your care are OHIP-covered when completed at an Ontario lab with a valid health card. Treatments may be covered by your extended health plans. We help complete insurance forms if needed.
Can you adjust my current diabetes medications?
Yes. As Nurse Practitioners, we can initiate, adjust, or deprescribe diabetes medications when it’s safe and appropriate, including insulin and non-insulin options.
Will this replace my family doctor or endocrinologist?
No. We work with, not instead of, your existing care team. With your permission, we can share updates or coordinate care.
Can I join if I’m already on insulin?
Yes. Many patients in this program are already using insulin. We help optimize doses, reduce side effects, and explore other options over time when appropriate.
Is the goal to reverse diabetes?
For some people, especially with early type 2 diabetes or prediabetes, remission may be possible. For others, the focus is safer blood sugar levels, fewer complications, and better quality of life. We set realistic goals together.
How often will I need follow-up visits?
Many people start with visits every 6-8 weeks, then space out as things stabilize. We decide on the schedule together based on your needs.
Do you support insulin pump users?
Yes. I am a certified insulin pump trainer and can help you troubleshoot pump issues, adjust settings, interpret data, and ensure your pump is working safely and effectively for your needs.
